GUITAR SET-UP: ACTION & INTONATION

Just like any instrument, guitars need occasional adjustments to perform their best. A professional guitar setup can dramatically improve your instrument’s playability and tone. We’ll tailor your setup to match your playing style—light, medium, or heavy—so your guitar feels and sounds perfect in your hands.

Intonation refers to how well your guitar stays in tune across the entire fretboard. It ensures that when you fret a note at any fret, it’s the correct pitch, not sharp or flat. If your intonation is off, your guitar might sound in tune when you play open strings, but chords and notes higher up the neck will sound out of tune with each other. This can make your playing sound dissonant and unprofessional.

Action refers to the height of the strings above the fretboard. It’s essentially the distance between the strings and the frets. Action affects how easy or difficult it is to play your guitar.

REPLACING DAMAGED PARTS

Over time, various guitar parts can succumb to wear and tear, impacting playability and sound. The neck, a crucial component, can warp or bow due to humidity fluctuations, leading to fret buzz and high action; this often necessitates truss rod adjustments or, in severe cases, professional neck resetting.

Frets themselves wear down, causing buzzing and intonation issues, requiring leveling, crowning, or complete replacement. The nut, responsible for string spacing and height, can wear or break, affecting tuning stability and causing buzzing; replacement is typically the solution.

Tuning pegs can loosen or corrode, impacting tuning stability, and may need tightening or replacement. The bridge, crucial for intonation and string height, can lift or corrode, necessitating repair or replacement. Electric guitars are also prone to electronic failures, including pickup malfunctions, faulty output jacks, and crackling potentiometers, all requiring soldering and component replacement.

Lucky for you, we stock spare parts for most guitars so if there is a damaged pickup, a rusted peg or a broken nut, it can be changed in no time!
